Friction Fire & Forest Connection
with Luke McLaughlin

Sat, Nov 15 | noon - 4pm

Dearest community,

I’m excited to introduce you to Luke, my very first Earth skills teacher, and a beloved friend of mine. Getting to learn from him and spend time with him is a true gift, and I hope you’ll join us while he’s in town.

With Love,
Morgan

Let’s gather at Benzai Bloomstead to explore the gifts of the forest.
How do you identify and process acorns for food?
What trees are suitable for carving a longbow?
How do you create a fire with friction?

Join us for a slow, intentional walk through the woods as we deepen our relationship with the trees that sustain life. Together we’ll explore how to identify local species and discover their unique roles within the forest ecosystem — from the food they offer in the form of nuts and seeds, to the shelter, tools, and warmth their wood provides.

We’ll learn how trees communicate, adapt, and survive — and what they can teach us about resilience and interconnection. As the day unfolds, we’ll transition from learning about the forest to working with it, using wood from the land to create fire through friction.

This class is an invitation to remember our place in the web of life.

Whether you’re new to nature connection or looking to deepen your skills, you’ll leave with fresh eyes for the forest — and a spark of inspiration that reaches far beyond the flame.

More about Luke McLaughlin

You might recognize Luke from the show Naked & Afraid

Luke McLaughlin

naturalist, teacher, rewilder, mentor, survivalist, and founder of Holistic Survival School

You may recognize Luke from the show “Naked and Afraid” and “Naked and Afraid XL”, where he survived for 21 and 40 days in the wilderness. He used those experiences to deepen his own experience of being human, and brings those lessons into his teachings.

Luke believes it is every human’s birthright to have a deep physical, emotional, and spiritual connection to our Earth, and he has dedicated himself to being a bridge to our modern culture.

He is also trained in Holistic Counseling, Shadow work, and Trauma-informed breath-work. With these modalities, Luke creates a nurturing and also “edge-pushing” experience. He is dedicated to meeting people where they are at, with love and compassion to help foster a new (actually old) way of being human.

Learn about his Deep Remembering Immersion program.

Luke’s work is to help folks remember their own deep well of

primitive skills,
community living skills
& emotional regulation tools

that are our human legacy.
